Softball Recap: Santa Cruz Valley Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Santa Cruz Valley, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Tombstone Yellow Jackets 8-6.

Alyssa Flores spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Santa Cruz Valley's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Emilee Brown, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Santa Cruz Valley is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Tombstone, with the loss, they broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-13.

Santa Cruz Valley wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 13-0 victory against Arizona Lutheran Academy on the 24th. Tombstone has also already played their next game (against San Miguel), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
