Basketball Recap: Delphi Community Comes Up Short

Delphi Community fought the good fight in their overtime game against Winamac on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Winamac Warriors 57-51. The Oracles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Loss or not, Delphi Community got some senior leadership from Jenna Roth and Maddy Brown. Roth posted 19 points in addition to five rebounds and five steals, while Brown dropped a double-double on 13 points and 16 boards. With that strong performance, Roth is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. Another player making a difference was Payton Morrow, who put up nine points.

Winamac's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sadie Popejoy, who posted 25 points and three steals. The match was Popejoy's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Marissa Iverson, who earned eight points along with 17 rebounds and four blocks.

Delphi Community's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Winamac, their record now sits at 10-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Delphi Community will square off against Carroll at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Winamac, they will face off against Knox at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Knox has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
