Softball Recap: Sayre Takes a Loss

Sayre extended their losing streak to eight on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 1-8 in the process. They lost 16-5 to the Sullivan County Griffins. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Sabres of the 11-5 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Olivia Thompson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season.

As for Sullivan County, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The result was nothing new for Sullivan County, who have now won six contests by 11 runs or more so far this season.

On Sullivan County's side, Emilia Viveiros spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits. Viveiros has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kayla Fowler and Mariah Hallabuk did most of the damage at the plate: Fowler went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs, while Hallabuk went 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Fowler has posted since back in March of 2024. Bailey Bogart was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Sayre has already played their next game (against Liberty), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Sullivan County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, an 8-7 win against Bucktail on the 24th.
