Softball Game Preview: Watauga Pioneers vs. Alexander Central Cougars

Watauga hasn't had much luck against Alexander Central recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Pioneers will look to defend their home field against the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. Watauga has given up an average of 10.7 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Watauga came up short against South Caldwell on Friday, falling 16-5. The Pioneers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Chloe Wilson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Julie Matheson also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Alexander Central had already won 12 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.9 runs) and they went ahead and made it 13 on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Panthers, sneaking past 6-4.

Alexander Central pushed their record up to 16-1 with the win, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average this season. As for Watauga, their loss dropped their record down to 3-10.
