Preview: Chaminade Eagles vs. Harvard-Westlake Wolverines
Chaminade is 2-8 against Harvard-Westlake since February of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Chaminade Eagles will look to defend their home court against the Harvard-Westlake Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Chaminade's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. The matchup between Chaminade and Notre Dame (SO) wasn't particularly close, with Chaminade falling 94-80. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game on Wednesday (72), Chaminade still had to take the loss.
Despite the loss, Chaminade had strong showings from Bryce Goldman, who scored 33 points, and Jonas Thurman, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds. Goldman is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Cordero, who scored six points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Harvard-Westlake and Sierra Canyon (ranked 15 and ten in the MaxPreps national rankings respectively) squared off in a high-profile contest. Harvard-Westlake fell to Sierra Canyon 74-68. Harvard-Westlake has been going strong on the season, but this is now their second defeat in a row.
Chaminade has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 16-9 record this season. As for Harvard-Westlake, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 20-3.
