Football Recap: Jackson Stremick and Jake Meer Secure Win for Newport Harbor

There's no place like home for Newport Harbor, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They took down the Lancaster Eagles 42-26 on Friday. The Sailors pushed the score to 35-12 by the end of the third, a deficit the Eagles cut but never quite recovered from.

Leading Newport Harbor to victory were Jake Meer and Jackson Stremick. Meer threw for 246 yards and four touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes, while Stremick picked up 112 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. Those four passing touchdowns gave Meer a new career-high. A healthy portion of Meer's aerial production (98 yards to be exact) also went to Ryan Palmer.

Newport Harbor didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Lancaster to a completion percentage of just 47.2%. The team can thank James Callaghan for the heroic effort on defense: he. Given Meer's standout performance, it's clear Lancaster's secondary just wasn't on the same level.

When it comes to explaining why Lancaster lost, don't look at Michael Marsenich. Despite the final result, he rushed for 105 yards and one score on only seven carries, and also threw for 232 yards and a pair of TDs. Marsenich's longest rush was for an impressive 57 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Another player making a difference was Arthur Turner, who gained 131 total yards and a touchdown.

Newport Harbor's victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 1-1. As for Lancaster, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.
