Basketball Game Preview: Avon Orioles vs. Silver Creek Dragons

The Avon Orioles and the Silver Creek Dragons will round out the year against one another at at 11:45 a.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Avon is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Friday. They were one points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 66-65 heartbreaker at the hands of Brownsburg.

Despite the loss, Avon got top-tier performance from Aniah Smith, who went 14 for 30 on her way to 33 points in addition to seven assists and five boards. That's the most points Smith has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Mya Thompson, who posted 14 points and three steals.

Meanwhile, Silver Creek earned a 57-47 win over Brownstown Central on Saturday. Given the Dragons' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 16th, while the Braves are ranked 75th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Silver Creek's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-2. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.4 points per game. As for Avon, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-6.
