Basketball Recap: Monument Academy Comes Up Short

Monument Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss dating back to last season. They were dealt an 80-24 defeat at the hands of the Lotus School For Excellence Meteors. While losing is never fun, the Lynx can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 335th, while the Meteors are ranked 167th).

Matthew Smith was Monument Academy's leading scorer, having posted seven points.

Kirubel Lemma continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Lotus School For Excellence, going 8 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 26 points. The dominant performance gave Lemma a new career-high in points. Yai Ayany was another key player, going 6 of 8 on his way to 12 points along with six rebounds and three blocks.

Monument Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-8. As for Lotus School For Excellence, they pushed their record up to 7-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home.

Monument Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 37-31 defeat against The Colorado Springs School on the 21st. Lotus School For Excellence has also already played their next match, a 76-72 loss against Denver Waldorf on the 18th.
