Preview: Holy Cross Lancers vs. King's Christian

The Holy Cross Lancers will look to defend their home court on Thursday against King's Christian at 5:15 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Holy Cross came tearing into Sunday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. In a tight game that could have gone either way, they made off with a 72-71 victory over Pitman.

Holy Cross got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Emmanuel Doku out in front who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Doku hasn't dropped below 15 points for ten straight games. Samir Wellington was another key contributor, scoring 21 points.

Meanwhile, King's Christian put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. Everything went their way against The Christian Academy as King's Christian made off with a 70-47 victory. Given King's Christian's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 97th in New Jersey, while The Christian Academy is ranked 513th in Pennsylvania), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

King's Christian's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jason Brice, who scored 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tysaun Bruce, who scored 16 points.

Holy Cross' win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-12. As for King's Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Holy Cross against King's Christian when the teams last played back in December of 2022 as the team secured a 71-20 win. With Holy Cross ahead 34-10 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
