Softball Game Preview: Granada Hills Charter Highlanders vs. Venice Gondoliers

The Granada Hills Charter Highlanders will take on the Venice Gondoliers at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Granada Hills Charter sitting on 11 straight victories and Venice on ten.

Granada Hills Charter is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Banning a 13-0 shutout. Considering the Highlanders have won 18 matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Addison Moorman tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Elysse Diaz, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Annabella Ramirez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Venice had just enough and edged out El Camino Real 2-1 on Thursday.

Violet Acensio spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits.

At the plate, Sandy Carrera was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one home run.

Granada Hills Charter's win bumped their record up to 26-3. As for Venice, their victory bumped their record up to 21-2.

Everything went Granada Hills Charter's way against Venice in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Granada Hills Charter made off with an 11-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Highlanders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
