Basketball Recap: Oziel Escobedo's Big Game Can't Quite Lead IDEA Riverview over Rio Hondo

IDEA Riverview lost against Rio Hondo back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The IDEA Riverview Rockets fell 50-41 to the Rio Hondo Bobcats.

Several Rockets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Oziel Escobedo, who posted 21 points. With that strong performance, Escobedo is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. Another player making a difference was Alfonzo Ibarra, who scored 12 points.

IDEA Riverview's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Rio Hondo, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a massive bump to their 16-11 record this season.

IDEA Riverview is facing IDEA Weslaco Pike at the right time seeing as IDEA Weslaco Pike is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Rio Hondo, they will take on Santa Rosa at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Santa Rosa has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 210 points over their last three matches.
