Baseball Recap: Winchester Now 5-1 over Last Six Games

Winchester hadn't done well against Lexington recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Red & Black came out on top against the Minutemen by a score of 5-1. While the Red & Black didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Nick Penicaud spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 13 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Brendan Bock was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run. Nolan Gannon was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Winchester has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Lexington, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.

Looking ahead, Winchester will head out to face off against Reading Memorial at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Lexington, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Concord-Carlisle at 5:00 p.m. The Patriots have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed seven runs per game on average), something the Minutemen will no doubt try to take advantage of.
