Preview: Vail Christian Saints vs. West Grand Mustangs
Vail Christian is on a seven-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while West Grand is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Vail Christian Saints will take on the West Grand Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
You can't lose the contest if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Vail Christian's strategy against Soroco on Thursday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Vail Christian blew Soroco out of the water with a 67-14 final score. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 46-0.
Meanwhile, West Grand got themselves on the board against Hayden on Friday, but Hayden never followed suit. They really took it to the Tigers for the full four quarters, racking up a 40-0 win at home. Given West Grand's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado football rankings (they are ranked ninth, while Hayden is ranked 40th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
West Grand's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Blake Terryberry, who threw for 338 yards and six touchdowns on only 17 passes. Another player making a difference was Joe Probst, who picked up 181 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Vail Christian to 5-2 and West Grand to 7-0.
Vail Christian strolled past West Grand when the teams last played back in October of 2022 by a score of 50-36. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was West Grand's Wyatt Shearer, who rushed for 112 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 85 yards and three touchdowns.
