Baseball Recap: Checotah Wins Going Away Against Fort Gibson

Checotah won the last time they faced Fort Gibson and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 9-1 victory. Considering the Wildcats have won eight games by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Mason Rainbolt was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over 4.1 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Checotah is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-15 otherwise. Rainbolt was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Bryce Marshall and Charles Collins did most of the damage at the plate: Marshall scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4, while Collins scored three runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. Collins is becoming a predictor of Checotah's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-16 when he doesn't). Camden Ferguson was another key player, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-5.

Checotah is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-16 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Fort Gibson, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-21.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Checotah will host Chouteau-Mazie at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Fort Gibson, they will welcome Muldrow at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
