Eastern York dropped their record down to 8-5 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Susquehannock Warriors by a score of 13-12. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-3 back in March.
As for Susquehannock, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games.
For Susquehannock's part, Ella Wetzel made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over eight innings while giving up three earned (and nine unearned) runs off nine hits. Wetzel has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-6 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That stolen base was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Callie Shue, who went 1-for-5 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Michelle Morris, who went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.
Coming up, Eastern York is taking a road trip to take on Annville-Cleona on Saturday. As for Susquehannock, they will welcome York Suburban at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. The Warriors are facing the Trojans at the right time seeing as the Trojans are stuck on a 12-game losing streak.
