Basketball Game Preview: Chaparral Cowboys vs. Virgin Valley Bulldogs

Chaparral is 1-9 against Virgin Valley since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Chaparral Cowboys will venture away from home to challenge the Virgin Valley Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. Virgin Valley took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Chaparral, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Chaparral turned things around against Bonanza on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bengals, sneaking past 25-22. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cowboys have posted since January 30, 2024.

Chaparral found their leader in freshman Zamariyah Walker, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards. Walker has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played.

Meanwhile, Virgin Valley faced Centennial in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. Virgin Valley was outmatched by Centennial and fell 77-49. Virgin Valley's loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Virgin Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 16-7. As for Chaparral, their win ended an 11-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-12.

Chaparral was taken down by Virgin Valley 60-8 in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Chaparral was down 46-2.
