Basketball Recap: Rich Township Snags 16th Win in Last 19 Games

Rich Township hadn't done well against Thornton recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Rich Township Raptors walked away with a 77-70 victory over the Thornton Wildcats. Given the Raptors' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while the Wildcats are ranked 257th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Rich Township to victory were Jayden Williams and Al Brooks. Williams went 6 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 28 points and three steals, while Brooks went 11 of 16 on his way to 28 points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave Williams a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kavon Ammons, who posted eight points.

Thornton lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Deandre Higgs, who went 8 for 9 to rack up 20 points and six boards. Another player making a difference was Jordan Maple, who scored 17 points.

Rich Township has been performing well recently as they've won 16 of their last 19 games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.9 points over those games. As for Thornton, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-18.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rich Township will challenge Crete-Monee at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Rich Township has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 226 points over their last three matchups. As for Thornton, they will take on Bloom at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Bloom will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Thornton surely won't give up without a fight.
