Basketball Recap: Aiden Zajicek's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Wilber-Clatonia over Southern

Wilber-Clatonia fought the good fight in their overtime game against Southern on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Southern Raiders by a score of 54-52. If the Wolverines were looking for revenge after losing 39-37 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Wilber-Clatonia's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aiden Zajicek, who posted 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Graysen Vlcan, who scored eight points along with seven boards and five assists.

Southern's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Paxx Adams led the charge by going 8 of 13 on his way to 18 points. Cooper Warford was another key player, putting up 21 points and five rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Wilber-Clatonia and nudges their season record down to 7-5. As for Southern, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-6.

Wilber-Clatonia will welcome Thayer Central at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Southern, they will square off against Johnson County Central at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Southern is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.4 points per game this season.
