Softball Game Preview: McComb Panthers vs. Mohawk Warriors

The McComb Panthers will take on the Mohawk Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

McComb took a loss when they played away from home last Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They put the hurt on Perry with a sharp 14-3 victory. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Commodores recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Meanwhile, Mohawk strolled into their game on Thursday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against Colonel Crawford. The four-run effort marked the Warriors' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Aubrey Gottfried made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Mallory Brickner was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run. Trenna Johnson also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Mohawk's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for McComb, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
