Carlson is 1-9 against Allen Park since June of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Marauders will be playing in front of their home fans against the Jaguars at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Carlson took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Lincoln Park a 15-0 shutout.
Addison Skinner was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Skinner was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kiley Lewandowski, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Addison Butt, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Carlson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .654. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Allen Park waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Griffins.
Like Carlson, Allen Park also got a great game from a two-way player: Alexa Hawrot. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). Hawrot has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Allen Park got a massive performance out of Kiley Carr, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases Carr has posted over her last 12 matchups. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Gomez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Allen Park pushed their record up to 15-4 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Carlson, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season.
Both Carlson and Allen Park just can't seem to miss. The Marauders have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.1 hits per game. However, it's not like Allen Park struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
