Cheshire is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Naugatuck is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Rams will host the Greyhounds at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Friday as neither Cheshire nor Foran made it on the board until the seventh inning. The Rams sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over the Lions.
Dylan Scalice spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Bennett Crerar, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Michael Chopak was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.
Cheshire hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in six consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Naugatuck had just enough and edged out St. Paul Catholic 2-1 on Wednesday. Those two runs were actually the fewest the Greyhounds have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Damon Abate was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.
Naugatuck's victory bumped their record up to 13-4. As for Cheshire, their win bumped their record up to 8-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Cheshire has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Naugatuck struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
