Softball Game Preview: Hoquiam Grizzlies vs. Rochester Warriors

For the second straight game, Hoquiam will face off against Rochester. Hoquiam will welcome Rochester at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Hoquiam has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Rochester will arrive with four straight victories.

Monday just wasn't the day for Hoquiam's offense. They lost 12-0 to Rochester on Monday.

For Rochester's part, Layna Demers made a splash while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. Demers has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Charlie Culp was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Piper Quarnstrom, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Rochester kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive matches.

Rochester's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-2. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.3 runs over those games. As for Hoquiam, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6-1.
