Basketball Recap: Southport's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Tuesday

It was a good run, but Southport unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They received a blow as they fell 66-50 to the Franklin Central Flashes. The Cardinals lost against the Flashes in their previous head to head back in January of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 51-14 score last time.

When it comes to explaining why Southport lost, don't look at Ryleigh Hamilton. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds. Hamilton continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kassie Mcmasters, who posted 14 points and seven boards.

Franklin Central's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Emma Mcvey, who went 7 for 15 en route to 20 points and four steals. Mcvey has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Payton Duvall was another key player, going 7 of 10 on her way to 18 points and seven rebounds.

Southport's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-8. As for Franklin Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season.

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Southport Cardinals duke it out with the Greenfield-Central Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Southport is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.9 points per game this season. As for Franklin Central, they will face off against Fishers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Fishers has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 178 points over their last three contests.
