Recap: Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders vs. San Diego Cavers
There's no place like home for the Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road on Saturday. They skirted past San Diego 64-61. Given Mater Dei Catholic's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 181st, while San Diego is ranked 472nd), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Mater Dei Catholic to victory were Josiah Jefferson and Maseyo Elliott. Jefferson dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds, while Elliott scored 22 points. Those 22 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Lincoln Grogan, who scored 11 points.
Mater Dei Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 9-7. As for San Diego, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mater Dei Catholic will challenge Bonita Vista at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for San Diego, they will head out on the road to face off against St. Joseph Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
