Recap: Newcastle Dogies vs. Buffalo Bison
If the Newcastle Dogies were riding high off their 49-22 takedown of the Moorcroft Wolves on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Newcastle had to suffer through a rough 72-26 loss at the hands of Buffalo. Newcastle was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 52-11.
Newcastle's loss on Saturday came despite strong showings from Sydney Pederson and Julie Morris. Pederson scored 16 points along with six rebounds, while Morris scored no points. That was a full 61.5% of Newcastle's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Buffalo to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tess Rule, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten steals. Rule hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Karly Davis, who scored 15 points along with three steals.
Newcastle's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 6-6. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 29.8 points per game. As for Buffalo, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 9-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Newcastle and Glenrock will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 26th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Wyoming (Glenrock is ranked 45th, while Newcastle is ranked 39th). As for Buffalo, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Moorcroft at 2:00 p.m.
