One of the most recruited defensive players in the country has picked California as his college of choice.

Ellis McCarthy, a 6-foot-4, 310-pound defensive lineman from
Monrovia (Calif.) made his announcement at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio on Saturday.
Ranked the No. 8 recruit overall by MaxPreps.com, McCarthy has remarkable athletic ability for a player his size. He's run the 40-yard dash in 5.11 seconds and has a vertical jump of 28.1 inches.
He had 55 tackles and five sacks, leading Monrovia to an 11-3 record and Southern Section title.
"He has come out of nowhere to become one of the most recruited defensive players in the nation," CBS/MaxPreps recruiting expert Tom Lemming said. "He dominates at both the end and tackle positions."
McCarthy's college finalist were USC, Cal and Oregon. National Signing Day is Feb. 1 and verbal commits are not binding.
