Baseball Recap: Bad Axe Drops Highest Score of Season Against Vassar

Bad Axe extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 13 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-7 in the process. They lost 16-3 to the Vassar Vulcans. On the bright side, the three- run performance marked the Hatchets' highest-scoring contest to date.

Damon Blackstock was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with four stolen bases and two runs.

As for Vassar, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 3-6. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by seven runs or more this season.

On Vassar's side, Trevor Gleeson made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Those 13 strikeouts gave Gleeson a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, Vassar let Brayden Rondo and Cheven Lesko run wild. Rondo went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Lesko went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Lesko continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Cole Nickerson, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bad Axe will challenge Sandusky at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Vassar, they will face off against Memphis at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
