Basketball Recap: Oskaloosa Triumphs

Oskaloosa hadn't done well against Jackson Heights recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Oskaloosa Bears sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 45-42 win over the Jackson Heights Cobras. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bears have posted since February 23, 2024.

Despite the defeat, Jackson Heights saw an underclassman step up: freshman Nicole Amon posted eight points and 13 boards. Those 13 rebounds set a new season-high mark for Amon. The team also got some help courtesy of Chesnea Cochren, who scored 11 points and five boards.

The win got Oskaloosa back to even at 4-4. As for Jackson Heights, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-6.

Oskaloosa has already played their next game (against Atchison County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Jackson Heights will venture away from home to take on Oskaloosa on January 23rd.
