Volleyball Preview: Beachside Barracudas vs. St. Augustine Yellow Jackets
Beachside has been on the road for two straight, but on Thursday they'll finally head home. They will welcome the St. Augustine Yellow Jackets at 7:00 p.m. Beachside will be strutting in after a win while St. Augustine will be coming in after a defeat.
On Wednesday, Beachside made easy work of Middleburg and carried off a 3-0 victory.
Beachside didn't let Middleburg take a single set, but it sure wasn't easy: every set was decided by three points or less. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 25-23, 29-27.
Beachside found their leader in underclassman Mollie VanDeusen, who had 16 digs, 13 kills, and four aces. That's the most aces VanDeusen has posted in her last eight matches. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabella Taveras, who had 15 digs and two aces.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, St. Augustine's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They came up short against Tocoi Creek, falling 3-0. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Yellow Jackets haven't been shut out since back in August.
St. Augustine was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Tocoi Creek work for it, especially in the third set. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 25-15, 26-24.
Beachside's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-3. As for St. Augustine, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-8.
