Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Luke Schmotzer and Alex Mcculloch Lead Orange to Victory

On Thursday, the Orange Lions were able to grind out a solid victory over John Hay, taking the game 62-53.

Leading Orange to victory were Alex McCulloch and Luke Schmotzer. McCulloch went 8-for-11 en route to 20 points and six rebounds, while Schmotzer posted seven points in addition to ten boards and six assists. Schmotzer also grabbed five steals, which is notable because Orange is 2-1 when he posts at least five steals, but 7-11 otherwise. Ryan Doerner was another key player, putting up nine points.

Orange smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Orange's win bumped their record up to 9-12. As for John Hay, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 9-12.

Orange has already played their next contest, a 64-57 victory against Beachwood on the 14th. As for John Hay, they will square off against Louisville at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Louisville's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last ten games.
