Preview: Lugoff-Elgin Demons vs. Irmo Yellowjackets
After three games on the road, Lugoff-Elgin is heading back home. They will take on the Irmo Yellowjackets at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Lugoff-Elgin suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Friday. They were beaten by A.C. Flora 90-42. Lugoff-Elgin has not had much luck with A.C. Flora recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Lugoff-Elgin had strong showings from Kaleb Long, who scored 14 points, and Marcus Clark, who scored six points.
Lugoff-Elgin struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Irmo's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their tenth straight loss. They took a 50-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of Westwood. While losing is never fun, Irmo can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 158th, while Westwood is ranked third).
Lugoff-Elgin has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. As for Irmo, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 3-16.
Lugoff-Elgin took a serious blow against Irmo in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 80-49. Can Lugoff-Elgin avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
