Basketball Recap: Northside - Pinetown Takes a Loss

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Northside - Pinetown couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They were outmatched by the Voyager Academy Vikings and fell 80-47. The Panthers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-20.

When it comes to explaining why Northside - Pinetown lost on Friday, don't look at Chase Hewitt. Despite the final result, he went 5-for-6 to rack up 15 points. Those 15 points gave Hewitt a new career-high. Nick Moore was another key player, putting up five points in addition to seven boards and five assists.

Even though they lost, Northside - Pinetown smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests.

Manny Pullium was his usual excellent self, shooting 67% from the field en route to 14 points and five assists for Voyager Academy. Pullium is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last ten games he's played. Another player making a difference was Will Cameron, who went 5-for-8 on his way to 12 points.

Northside - Pinetown's defeat dropped their record down to 21-6. As for Voyager Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-5 record this season.

Northside - Pinetown does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Voyager Academy, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 76-53 win against Wake Prep Academy on the 4th.
