Carson is 1-9 against Spanish Springs since March of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Senators will face off against the Cougars at 9:00 a.m. Carson has given up an average of 7.3 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Last Tuesday, Carson came up short against Damonte Ranch and fell 13-9.
Lillian Barker stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with two triples and three runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Ari Gallardo-Yanez, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI.
Meanwhile, Spanish Springs faced Galena in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Cougars put the hurt on the Grizzlies with a sharp 12-2 victory. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.
Spanish Springs also got a great performance from Hannah Fitzpatrick as she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Fitzpatrick has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Kacyn Gifford was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Madison Rogers was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double.
Spanish Springs kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive matches.
Spanish Springs has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Carson, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8-1.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Carson hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .363. However, it's not like Spanish Springs struggles in that department as they've averaged .365. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Carson might still be hurting after the 16-6 defeat they got from Spanish Springs in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Senators avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
