Softball Game Preview: Monessen Greyhounds vs. Jeannette Jayhawks

The Monessen Greyhounds are taking a road trip to challenge the Jeannette Jayhawks at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Monessen comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Monessen lost 18-3 to Serra Catholic on Tuesday.

Monessen saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joey Hurst, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That run was Hurst's first of the season. Grace Clingenpeel was another, going 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.

Meanwhile, Jeannette got themselves on the board against Ellis on Wednesday, but Ellis never followed suit. They put the hurt on Ellis with a sharp 10-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Jayhawks in their matchups with Ellis: they've now won seven in a row.

Grace Stein was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Abby Shaw was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Raylyn Gallik, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

Jeannette always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ellis only posted an OBP of .111.

Jeannette's victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Monessen, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.

Monessen might still be hurting after the 15-3 loss they got from Jeannette when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Greyhounds avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
