Softball Game Preview: College Station Cougars vs. Huntsville Hornets

The College Station Cougars will head out to face off against the Huntsville Hornets at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. College Station is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

Last Tuesday, College Station earned a 4-1 win over Montgomery. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Bears: they've now won six in a row.

Gracie Ream made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in 16 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Ream wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Bailey Southard, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Huntsville's offense. They came up short against Lake Creek on Tuesday, falling 14-0.

College Station's win was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-7. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Huntsville, they now have a losing record of 11-12.

Everything went College Station's way against Huntsville in their previous matchup back in March, as College Station made off with a 9-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
