Football Recap: Hidalgo Early College Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Hidalgo Early College extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to ten on Friday, dropping them down to 0-9. They took a blow against the Calallen Wildcats, falling 62-0. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 1160th, while the Wildcats are ranked 339th).

Jaden Wheeler threw for 53 yards on four of eight attempts. Javier Martinez was his top target, picking up 32 receiving yards. On the ground, Roberto Gallegos rushed for 38 yards.

As for Calallen, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 7.5 points on average over those games.

Connor Klostermann was his usual excellent self, rushing for 174 yards and a pair of TDs, while also throwing for 85 yards and two touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes. He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 87-yard run. Drayson Gamez was another key player, picking up 68 receiving yards and two scores.

Hidalgo Early College has already played their next matchup, a 31-14 win against Valley View on the 7th. As for Calallen, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against El Campo at 7:00 p.m. on the 14th.
