Soccer Recap: Alton Comes Up Short

Alton lost against Belleville West on September 4th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Redbirds came up short against the Maroons, falling 6-1. While losing is never fun, Alton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois soccer rankings (they are ranked 285th, while Belleville West are ranked 59th).

Alton's goal came courtesy of Dylan Smith, who's now up to four this season.

Alton has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. As for Belleville West, their win bumped their record up to 9-4.

Coming up, Alton is taking a road trip to square off against Granite City at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Belleville West has already played their next matchup (against Glenbrook North), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
