Basketball Recap: Newberry Takes a Loss

Newberry lost against Fox Creek back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Newberry Bulldogs fell just short of the Fox Creek Predators by a score of 50-47. While the Bulldogs didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Predators 12-7 in the first quarter.

Fox Creek's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Justin Vining led the charge by going 6 of 11 en route to 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Baskett, who went 5 for 12 on his way to 14 points.

Newberry has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.0 points per game. As for Fox Creek, their victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-9.

Coincidentally, Newberry and Fox Creek will both be playing Keenan the next time they take the court. Fox Creek will host Keenan at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while Newberry will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on February 11th.
