Basketball Recap: Madison County Mountaineers vs. Clarke County Eagles

Madison County lost against Clarke County back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Madison County Mountaineers had to suffer through a 60-32 loss at the hands of the Clarke County Eagles. The Mountaineers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Madison County lost, don't look at Willa Lewis. Despite the final result, she posted eight points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Madison County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 18 consecutive games.

Alainah Mckavish was her usual excellent self, going 9-for-12 on her way to 23 points in addition to seven boards and four steals for Clarke County. Mckavish's evening made it eight games in a row in which she has scored at least 17 points. Another player making a difference was Devin Simmons-McDonald, who put up five points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Madison County's record now sits at 5-17. As for Clarke County, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season.

Madison County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 37-33 defeat against Rappahannock County on the 13th. As for Clarke County, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 73-18 win against Stonewall Jackson on the 14th.
