Football Game Preview: La Jolla Country Day Torreys vs. Escondido Charter Tigers

The La Jolla Country Day Torreys will face off against the Escondido Charter Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Escondido Charter took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on La Jolla Country Day, who comes in off a win.

La Jolla Country Day took a 24-point defeat the last time they faced off against Bishop's, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Torreys came out on top in a nail-biter against the Knights on Friday, sneaking past 28-26. The win was some much needed relief for the Torreys as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

La Jolla Country Day got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Marvin Jones III out in front who rushed for 35 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also threw for 114 yards and one TD. Jones III also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making eight total tackles and defending one pass. James Picinich got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Escondido Charter's offense. They were dealt a 35-0 loss at the hands of Santa Fe Christian on Friday. The defeat continues a trend for the Tigers in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost four in a row.

La Jolla Country Day's win bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Escondido Charter, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Everything came up roses for La Jolla Country Day against Escondido Charter in their previous matchup back in September of 2024, as the team secured a 42-13 victory. In that matchup, the Torreys amassed a halftime lead of 28-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
