Preview: Gretna Dragons vs. Omaha South Packers
The Gretna Dragons and the Omaha South Packers will face off at 7:15 p.m. on December 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Gretna has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 486 points over their last six matchups.
Even though Millard West scored an imposing 65 points on Saturday, Gretna still came out on top. Gretna took down Millard West 81-65. 81 seems to be a good number for Gretna as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Alex Wilcoxson was his usual excellent self, scoring 18 points along with six assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Joey Vieth, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Omaha South scored the most points they've had all season to find success last Saturday. They blew past Buena Vista, posting a 72-38 win on the road. With that victory, Omaha South brought their scoring average up to 53.2 points per game.
Keegan Kimble and Lou Hodoly were among the main playmakers for Omaha South as the former scored 19 points along with six steals and five rebounds and the latter scored 27 points along with seven rebounds. That's the first time this season that Kimble grabbed two or more steals. Ramon Ware was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven assists and four steals.
Gretna's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Omaha South, their win ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-2.
Fans should be in for an exciting game on Tuesday as the pair are among the highest scoring teams in the league right now. Gretna hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 81 points per game. However, it's not like Omaha South struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 53.2 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Gretna didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Omaha South in their previous matchup back in January of 2022, but they still walked away with a 51-45 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Omaha South's T'Andre Perkins, who scored 16 points along with three blocks. Now that he won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be that much easier for Gretna to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
