Softball Recap: Florence Huskies vs. Holyoke Dragons
Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Florence). They were the clear victor by a 19-12 margin over the Holyoke Dragons on Friday. This was payback for the Huskies, who suffered a 12-1 loss the last time these two teams met.
Addison Dalton made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts every time she's pitched this season. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI.
In other batting news, Florence got a massive performance out of Lilly Roe, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5. The dominant performance gave Roe a new career-high in hits. The team also got some help courtesy of Makala Miller, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Florence was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .594. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Holyoke only posted a batting average of .286.
Florence's victory ended a 13-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-2. As for Holyoke, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-7.
Florence didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 6-6 draw vs. Wray/Yuma on the 7th. Holyoke has also already played their next game, a 12-10 defeat against Burlington on the 7th.
