Basketball Game Preview: Hough Huskies vs. Chambers Cougars

Hough is 1-9 against Chambers since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Hough Huskies will host the Chambers Cougars at 7:30 p.m. That match will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Judah Freeman and Markus Kerr.

Hough is headed into the contest having just suffered their biggest loss since January 26, 2024 on Friday. They had to suffer through a 78-48 loss at the hands of North Mecklenburg. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 173rd, while the Vikings are ranked eighth).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chambers). They took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 108-36 win over West Mecklenburg. The victory was nothing new for the Cougars as they're now sitting on four straight.

Hough better focus on containing Kerr and Tarris Bouie III as the pair were huge in Chambers' win. Kerr went 8 for 9 en route to 20 points and four steals, while Bouie III went 9 of 13 on his way to 18 points and five assists. Kerr's evening made it 18 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Malik McCotter, who posted 11 points along with six assists and three steals.

Chambers was working as a unit and finished the game with 29 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Chambers has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 88.6 points per game. As for Hough, they now have a losing record at 8-9.

Hough came up short against Chambers in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, falling 64-52. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Kerr, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. Now that Hough knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
