Basketball Recap: Wayne County Comes Up Short

Wayne County fought the good fight in their overtime contest against McCreary Central on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took an 81-76 hit to the loss column at the hands of the McCreary Central Raiders. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (61), the Cardinals still had to take the loss.

Wayne County has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.2 points per game. As for McCreary Central, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-6.

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Wayne County Cardinals challenge the Somerset Christian Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Somerset Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Wayne County likes a good challenge. As for McCreary Central, they will venture away from home to take on Somerset at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. McCreary Central is facing Somerset at the right time seeing as Somerset is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
