League recap: Burlingame's Caulfield delivers best pitching performance from past week

Peninsula - Bay's top pitcher this week was Burlingame's Tommy Caulfield. He picked up one win and ten strikeouts.

First place in the standings of the league is up for grabs this week, as Carlmont sits tied atop the standings with Terra Nova.

Capuchino put just five batters on base with walks in the past week, but the Tigers' pitching staff has had the best control this season, surrendering a walk only 12 times in 47 innings this year.

21 batters hit over .400 this week. Leading the pack was Vic Guillera, who hit .800 by going 4-for-5.

David Smathers's four RBIs this week were tops in the league. For the year, he has racked up seven RBIs, good for eighth in the league.



Brett Berghammer was an RBI machine on Thursday, as he knocked in four runs during Half Moon Bay's 17-0 win over San Mateo. He went 2-for-3 and scored two runs.

The Panthers' Caulfield threw five shutout innings in a 7-0 win over Sacred Heart Prep on Friday. He pitched five scoreless innings and struck out ten, while giving up one hit.
