Baseball Recap: Pioneer Valley Regional Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory

Pioneer Valley Regional put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on the Oxford Pirates with a sharp 8-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won three games by six runs or more so far this season.

Ben Werner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Alex McClelland, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Ethan Quinn was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

McClelland wasn't the only one making solid contact: Pioneer Valley Regional kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Pioneer Valley Regional's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Oxford, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-3.

Coming up, Pioneer Valley Regional will take on Palmer at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Palmer has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed eight runs per game on average), something Pioneer Valley Regional will no doubt try to take advantage of.
