Baseball Game Preview: Crestview Cougars vs. New London Wildcats

For the second straight game, Crestview will face off against New London. The Cougars will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Wildcats at 5:00 p.m.

While Crestview's victory against New London wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cougars won by a run and slipped past the Wildcats 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cougars have posted since March 25, 2024.

For New London's part, Oliver Harrison put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Harrison was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, Brody Sword was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple. New London is 3-1 when Sword posts two or more runs, but 0-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Joe Gum, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one stolen base.

This is the second loss in a row for New London and nudges their season record down to 3-8. As for Crestview, their victory bumped their record up to 4-9.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Crestview has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like New London struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
