Basketball Recap: Dawson School Comes Up Short

Dawson School lost against Flatirons Academy back in January of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The matchup between the Dawson School Mustangs and the Flatirons Academy Bison didn't end well, with the Dawson School Mustangs falling 68-52. The Mustangs' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

Despite the defeat, Dawson School saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Milo Richtel en route to 27 points. The dominant performance gave Richtel a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Tu, who posted seven points and seven assists.

Even though they lost, Dawson School was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive contests.

Flatirons Academy had a senior duo take command as Brandon Ewing to rack up 18 points in addition to six boards and four steals and Parker Wilson almost dropped a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds. Wilson is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last six games he's played. Jackson Schulz was another key player, putting up nine points and eight rebounds.

Dawson School's loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Flatirons Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 12-6.

Dawson School wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 49-25 win against Gilpin County on the 21st. As for Flatirons Academy, they have also already played their next match, a 73-59 victory against Front Range Christian on the 20th.
