Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ferndale). Everything went their way against the Harper Woods Pioneers on Thursday as they made off with a 17-2 win. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Pioneers: they've now won five in a row.

Matthew Trumpy was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Ferndale let Jaylin Dennard and Mason Shaltis run wild. Dennard got on base in four of his five plate appearances with five stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Shaltis went 2-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. With that strong performance, Dennard is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Taylor Williams, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Ferndale always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .650. They are 3-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The win got Ferndale back to even at 5-5. As for Harper Woods, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-6.

Ferndale and Harper Woods could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Michigan Rankings. The Eagles (ranked 239th) will meet Lutheran Northwest (ranked 47th) at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Harper Woods will square off against Seaholm at 4:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (327 vs. 15).
