Basketball Game Preview: Brewer Witches vs. Cony Rams

The Brewer Witches and the Cony Rams will round out the year against one another at at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Brewer knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Cony likes a good challenge.

While Brewer didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Couldn't have asked for a better way to wrap up 2024 than the 70-31 stomp they got against Nokomis. The Witches have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 24 points or more this season.

Brewer relied on the efforts of Steven Youngs, who went 8 of 12 on his way to 22 points, and Ollie Higgins, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 boards. That's the most points Youngs has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Fullerton, who posted nine points and six rebounds.

Brewer was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Cony scored the most points they've had this season on Saturday, but it wasn't enough. They took a 91-79 hit to the loss column at the hands of Camden Hills. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Monday (65), the Rams still had to take the loss.

Brewer pushed their record up to 7-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.3 points per game. As for Cony, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.
